Description
What Is a Lock Ring Closure
The Lock Ring Closure is a quick opening closure designed to deliver fast, reliable access to pressurized pipeline systems. The bandlock design uses an expanding lock ring to engage the cylinder flange and head cover. Operators rotate a single locking lever to drive the ring into position. This locks the head cover firmly against internal pressure — no bolt tightening or flange alignment required.
Each open-and-close cycle takes minutes and needs no special tools. The head cover seats consistently against the cylinder flange on every operation. This repeatable sealing performance reduces leakage risk over extended service life and cuts downtime during pipeline inspection and maintenance.
EMT manufactures this lock ring type closure in three types to match different operating conditions and pipe specifications.

Three Closure Types for Every Application
EMT offers lock ring, bayonet, and clamp closure configurations to cover a broad range of pipeline service conditions.
Lock Ring Type — The lock ring closure is the flagship product in our lineup. The lock ring engages the cylinder flange through a full-circumference interface. This design distributes pressure load evenly across the entire ring. It suits large-diameter, high-pressure applications in gas transmission pipelines and offshore topsides.
Bayonet Type — The bayonet type uses interlocking lugs on the head cover and cylinder. Engagement requires only a short rotation of the head cover. This type suits moderate-pressure vessels where fast cycling and compact overall dimensions are both priorities. It is commonly used on scraper receiver barrels and chemical injection vessels.
Clamp Type — The clamp type secures the head cover with a hinged clamp band and a safety bolt assembly. It is well suited for small-bore applications and situations where the closure is accessed frequently at ground level. Installation is straightforward, and all components are easy to inspect and replace in the field.
Each type carries a dedicated safety interlock matched to its specific locking geometry.
How Does Lock Ring Closure Work?
The safety interlock device prevents two critical operator errors. First, the system blocks pressurization if the closure is not fully closed. Second, it prevents opening while internal pressure remains above 0.1 MPa.
The interlock operates on a pneumatic piston principle. When internal pressure exceeds 0.1 MPa, the piston rod drives the bolt cap outward into free-spin state. Rotating the cap does not move the bolt body, so the closure stays locked. When pressure drops below the return threshold, the piston retracts and the bolt cap re-engages the bolt sleeve. The operator can then remove the interlock and open the closure safely.
This mechanism meets the mandatory interlock requirements of SY/T 0556-2018 and aligns with ASME guidelines for pressure vessel access safety.
