Horizontal Bandlock Closure

Horizontal Bandlock Closure – Product Description The Horizontal Bandlock Closure is a quick-opening pressure vessel closure designed for pipeline systems, pig launchers, receivers, and filtration equipment. It uses a segmented locking band mechanism that contracts to open and expands to lock, enabling one-person operation in under 30 seconds without special tools.  Manufacturer: EMT (Shenyang EMT Piping Technology Co., Ltd.) – ASME U Stamp certified manufacturer with CNC machining centers and hydrostatic test facilities.

Description

What Is Horizontal Bandlock Closure?

A horizontal bandlock closure is a quick-opening pressure vessel closure for pipeline systems. It provides fast access to pig launchers, receivers, and filtration equipment. This design uses a segmented band that contracts to open and expands to lock. One-person operation takes under 30 seconds. The horizontal design offers several advantages over traditional bolted closures. The quick-opening mechanism reduces downtime during maintenance operations. The following are the advantages of the horizontal bandlock closure:

  • Open and close the closure in under 30 seconds with one operator. No special tools required.
  • ASME U Stamp certification ensures full compliance with pressure vessel codes and standards.
  • Segregated seal groove protects the O-ring from damage during operation and handling.
  • CNC-machined sealing surfaces provide repeatable, leak-free performance after multiple openings.
  • Adjustable eccentric stops allow field alignment without welding or hot work.
  • The horizontal design saves vertical space in plants with low overhead clearance.
  • Safety screw provides positive pressure indication before full opening is possible.

The closure consists of a head cover, barrel flange, locking band, safety screw, and hinge mechanism. All wetted parts are available in carbon steel or stainless steel. Seal options include nitrile rubber (NBR) for standard service and FKM (Viton) for high-temperature or chemical service.Different pressure levels should be matched with different types of blind plates.

How Does Horizontal Bandlock Closure Work?

This closure operates through a rotating band mechanism. The locking band consists of segmented pieces that contract when rotated anti-clockwise. This allows the cover to be opened quickly without removing any bolts or studs.

Follow these steps to open the closure:

  1. Verify the vessel is fully drained and isolated from pressure sources. Check all valves are closed.
  2. Slacken the safety screw without removing it completely. Any residual pressure will vent through the milled groove.
  3. Remove the safety screw and its integral locking plate from the closure mechanism.
  4. Rotate the handle anti-clockwise to contract the locking band. The band segments move inward.
  5. Swing the cover open using the hinged arm. The hinge pin allows smooth rotation.

To close the closure, reverse the sequence. Contract the band, position the cover, then rotate the handle clockwise. The band expands and locks the cover against the barrel flange. Install the locking plate and safety screw to secure the closure. Always check the seal condition before closing.

Where Should You Use It?

Use horizontal bandlock closures in these applications:

  • Pig launchers and receivers in pipeline systems for regular pigging operations
  • Filter separators and scrubbers requiring frequent access for element replacement
  • Chemical injection systems where periodic maintenance is required
  • Pressure vessels with space constraints that prevent vertical closure installation
  • EPC projects with tight maintenance schedules requiring quick vessel access
  • Storage tanks and process vessels in petrochemical plants
  • Offshore platforms where space and weight are critical considerations

Why Choose Horizontal Bandlock Closure?

The horizontal design offers several advantages over traditional bolted closures. The quick-opening mechanism reduces downtime during maintenance operations. Below are the key reasons to choose this design:
