Criss Cross PU Foam Pig

The Criss Cross PU Foam Pig by EMT is a high-performance pipeline cleaning tool designed for oil, gas, and water industries. It features a resilient polyurethane foam body coated with a criss-cross PU elastomer pattern, delivering superior scraping performance and extended service life compared to standard foam pigs. Available in three density grades (LC/MC/HC) and two nose styles (Bullet Nose/Double Dish), it adapts to pipelines from 2 to 60 inches. With startup pressure as low as 0.02 MPa and up to 50% deformation allowance, it passes bends, valves, and dents that rigid pigs cannot navigate. Optional magnets, wire brushes, and transmitter cavity make it customizable for any pigging program. ASME certified, ISO 9001 quality control, trusted by customers in 30+ countries.

Description

What Is Criss Cross PU Foam Pig?

A Criss Cross PU Foam Pig is a high-performance pipeline cleaning and maintenance tool widely used in oil, gas, and water pipeline systems. It features a resilient polyurethane (PU) foam body that is fully coated with a criss-cross pattern of PU elastomer on the surface. This unique criss-cross coating design significantly enhances the pig’s scraping performance and extends its service life compared to standard uncoated foam pigs.

This PU foam pig boasts superior performance over ordinary foam pigs for pipeline cleaning for multiple key reasons. First, its criss-cross elastomer coating doubles cleaning efficiency with multi-sided scraping edges. Made of flexible PU foam, the main body can compress by up to 50%, so it easily travels through dented, oval or deformed pipes that rigid pigs fail to pass through.Furthermore, three foam density grades (LC/MC/HC) enable adjustable cleaning intensity matching different pipeline states, while an ultra-low 0.02 MPa startup pressure supports operation even in low-pressure pipeline systems. For extra functionality, optional neodymium magnets trap iron scraps to safeguard downstream gear and ready the pipeline for ILI inspection tools.Besides, this PU foam pig supports abundant custom fittings including brushes, transmitters, bypass holes and more to fit tailored pigging plans, and its dual nose designs guarantee smooth movement through valves, tees and 1.5D bends with no jamming risks.

How Does It Work?

The Criss Cross PU Foam Pig is launched into the pipeline through a pig launcher and is propelled by the pressure of the flowing medium (liquid or gas). As the pig travels through the pipeline, its flexible PU foam body compresses and expands to adapt to pipe diameter changes, ovality, dents, and wall deformations of up to 50%. The criss-cross PU elastomer coating on the surface creates multiple scraping edges that continuously contact the pipe wall, effectively removing rust, scale, wax, construction debris, and liquid holdup from the internal pipe surface.

For pipelines with heavy fouling or hardened deposits, EMT can equip the pig with steel wire brushes or abrasive elements to provide aggressive mechanical cleaning. Optional neodymium magnet inserts capture and retain ferrous debris such as welding slag, rust scales, and metal particles that could damage downstream equipment or interfere with inline inspection (ILI) tools. A transmitter cavity (pinger cavity) can be installed to allow real-time pig tracking and localization during the run. Bypass holes or jetting ports are available to control pressure differential across the pig, preventing pressure lock when the pig encounters a restriction or reduced-diameter section.

Where Should You Use It?

The versatility of the Criss Cross PU Foam Pig makes it suitable for a wide range of pipeline scenarios across the oil, gas, petrochemical, and water industries:

  • Pre-commissioning cleaning: Remove construction debris, welding slag, and contaminants before hydrotest and startup.
  • Post-hydrotest dewatering: Remove water and dry the pipeline with air or nitrogen after hydrostatic testing.
  • Routine maintenance pigging: Periodic cleaning to remove liquid accumulation, wax buildup, and scale.
  • Product batching: Separate different product batches in multi-product pipelines and reduce product mixing.
  • Pipeline gauging: Run before intelligent pigging (ILI) to verify minimum internal diameter and detect obstructions.
  • Wax and paraffin removal: Remove heavy wax deposits in crude oil and waxy crude pipelines.
  • Liquid removal in gas lines: Remove liquid accumulation (condensate, water) to restore flow efficiency.
  • Pre-ILI conditioning: Clean and condition the pipeline before launching expensive intelligent inspection tools.
