Introduction

The EMT piping intrusive pig signaller is a mechanical detector mounted on pipelines to confirm the passage of cleaning or inspection pigs. Operators install it at pig launchers, receivers, and key points along the line. A spring-loaded plunger reaches into the pipe bore and pops a flag or sends an electrical signal when a pig passes. It covers pipe sizes from 2 inch and handles ANSI 150 to 2500 LB. EMT builds each unit to ASME U-Stamp standards with NACE MR0175 materials. The device offers flange and welded NPT mounts, bi-directional or uni-directional triggers, and works from -20°C to 120°C.

Usage Method

The intrusive pig signaller for pipeline works in three simple steps: mount, detect, and reset.

Mount.

Operators weld or bolt the unit onto a prepared fitting on the pipe. No special calibration is needed after fitting. EMT supplies four connection types to match your pipeline:

• Flange connection — bolts onto a 2 inch ASME B16.5 flange; easy to install and remove.
• Flange connection 20 mm adjustable — same flange mount with a 20 mm plunge-depth adjustment for accurate sensing.
• 2″ welded NPT connection — a permanently welded base with a 2 inch NPT nipple for a strong, leak-tight fit.
• 2″ welded adjustable — welded base with 20 mm adjustment and removal under pressure for live-line service.

Detect.

As the pig travels past, it nudges the plunger. The plunger flips a manual-reset flag from horizontal to vertical. Electrical versions also send a signal to the control room through a DPDT or SPDT switch.

Reset.

After the pig passes, the plunger returns on its own. The operator presses the flag down to reset it for the next run. If the flag will not reset, the pig is still present.

Removal tool.

EMT pairs removable models with a dedicated pig indicator removal tool. This pressure removal tool lets crews withdraw the signaller from a live, pressurized line without shutdown. It keeps maintenance safe on the under-pressure types.
